Funding media

Films can be funded by production companies. these companies such as Warner Bros and Lionsgate. These fund projects from directors with ideas they think will be a success in return for profits. There are also grants as a source of finance from people like the British Film Institute. These provide grants to fund films production expecting nothing back. They can also be funded by merchandise sales cinema tickets selling the rights to the film and sponsorship. Films such as the avengers was funded by the production company.

Independent films will get there funding from lots of places one of them is where they may do crowdfunding which means that people will give them money sometimes in return for something but other times its just if they like the sound of the product and want to help it get funded for example go fund me is an example of a crowdfunding website. Bank loans are also an option. Reservoir dogs is a independent film.

TV terrestrial channels are funded through adverts and sponsorships mainly on there programmes for example GTECH which sponsors gogglebox on channel 4. However they differ as the BBC has the TV licence and ITV is owned by shareholders. PPV and cable are funded through the subscription fees as well as advertising an example is sky and there channels and shows like sick of it.

The BBC makes its money through the TV licence people have to pay if they want to watch tv. It doesn't run adverts so its there only source of money. An example of this is Body Guard.

Some newspapers charge people to read there paper some others give there paper out for free. The way newspapers make most of there money is through advertising. They either do this by selling advert space in there newspaper to local and national businesses. An example of a paper which is free is the metro and example of a paper which is part free part paid is the manchester evening news and a example of a paid newspaper is  the sun.

Websites make there money through advertising which they can get per views or per click for example. Lots of websites give  the user a advert which is related to them this makes advertising more effective and means that the website can make more from advertising. For example if you where looking at a football website then go onto a unrelated website you may start seeing adverts associated with football.

crowdfunding is where companies ask for people to donate to there idea to help fund it and they may inreturn receive something or not. Go fund me is a example of a crowdfunding website.

A national lottery grant is a grant from national lottery they will give to companies charities or individuals which there aim is a good cause from the money they earn through the national lottery. They give grants to film makers as they look to help fund art.

Giving away newspapers and magazines for free makes sense because they make most of there money from advertising therefor giving them for free would make more people see them which intern  makes them more from advertising than it would from the charge price of a magazine.

the BBC must make good value for money programmes and not just programmes that no one really wants to see because there not very good. However they do have to have a programme for everyone for example songs of praise on a sunday.
three media products why they need money transport salary

One example of a media product is a blockbuster film. The majority of money spent on a blockbuster film is spent on the salaries for there actors/actresses. For example Robert Downey Jr was paid $50 million for avengers in 2012.
Another thing that costs is the rental of all the studios and buildings needed for example trailers.
Also you will need to rent lots of equipment to actually produce the film. You will need makeup and costume as well as maintenance and chefs. All the staff need feeding so food and drink.
There is also money needed to spend on transport to get the people they need to where they are filming.
