Development

Financing is sought. This is important as without the money to male the film it can't be made. 

Locations are researched is important because they need to find the exact place which fits the scene and and start to work on getting them locations planned.

Previsualisation images are images that are drawings of important scenes and characters which help people have an idea of what the film looks like. The costume and set design will use these to help make the costumes and make up of the characters. Sets to gain the overall feel of the environment around them. Furthermore these are a vital part of the pitch to production companies to try and get the film funded. In the first Alien vs Predator film due to the concept art the film had its budget doubled. 

Treatment is the project outline this is important to try and convince people to fund the project. As well as to get an overall idea of what the film will look like and what its about when you try and convince actors crew and others to become part of the film.

Rights to material are secured this is important as without the rights you can't legally make the film. To secure the right to material you usually have to pay the owner of the material for example warner bros who have the right for Harry Potter films would have to pay J.K Rowling to make the film.  

Pre production 

Actors and crew are hired this is important as you need the right people who are capable of making the film the way the director and producers want. 

Story boards are made this is important as everyone who is involved in them can have a more detailed look at what the whole film will look like. 

Studio time is booked, sets are built and locations scouted and finalised these are all important as they are all needed to actually film the film without these the film couldn't be shoot. 

Screenplay is written this is important as the actors and crew need this to be able to there jobs. Without the screenplay the actors couldn't reverse there lines the crew wouldn't know when to do there part.
